Visiting CEO, Hidden Bandwagon

Lou Hoffman, pint-sized PR impresario and CEO of the Hoffman Agency, has just wrapped up a five-week stint in Asia by sharing his wisdom with the Hong Kong chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

The, ah...“derivative” of the title of his talk - Crouching CEOs, Hidden Opportunities - raised more than one eyebrow. In fact, you could almost feel a sharp intake of breath each time the phrase was uttered out loud

But Lou’s presentation was actually very practical. It referred to making the most of opportunities during tough times, instead of hiding ones’ head in the sand.

Some of his advice included “Don’t ‘drip’ the bad news” and “don’t focus on message development - communicate themes”.

Lou’s talk went down well, especially with bitter tech PR agency rivals, EBA boss Rick Allen and account manager Michelle Brown. They were chuffed when he cited a recent Dao Heng customer relationship management story as being a good example of what to do. It was, as luck would have it, a story EBA had handled.

However, he walked into a bit of a minefield when he brought up the subject of Richard Li, Hong Kong’s most written-about CEO. Nonetheless, Lou showed his mastery of presentation skills by turning questions back to the floor for a frank discussion.

Diary can see Hoffman opening up new markets by adapting his talk for other audiences. Australians would no doubt be thrilled to hear Hoffman speak on Strictly Pressroom, or for classic film buff PROs, how about sitting through Gone with the Spinned?
